    Job Summary:

    Responsible to prepare and deliver coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to the college's Core Values, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meet professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.



    Required Qualifications:

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Teach courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and follow the approved course descriptions and syllabi established by the Division faculty and administered by the Director. Teaching assignments may be on one or more of the college's campuses or off-site locations and may include concurrent enrollment, distance education, evening and weekend programs, online instruction, and other instructional modalities.
    • Attend faculty meetings, and meet with faculty or director as needed.  
    • Develop and maintain national exam study materials, and tutor surgical assisting students for remediation of specific surgical skills.
    • Assist in the development of, and subsequently manage the maintenance of Surgical Assisting Student Clinical Role & Responsibilities section of Program Handbook.

     


    Supplemental Functions

    • Monitor/assess during surgical clinical in hospital/facilities.
    • Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures, and Core Values.

    Knowledge of Association of Surgical Assisting and Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting clinical standards and guidelines
    Knowledge of the surgical assisting program, ATC admission requirements, and graduation requirements

    Knowledge of each semester syllabi and calendar

    Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
    Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.

    Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, plus stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.

    Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Office environment.

    Little physical effort required.



    Requirements

    Associate degree in Applied Science or an associate degree in Science or higher from an accredited institution.


    A minimum of two (2) years of experience, either in the operating room surgical assisting role or as an instructor in surgical assisting, or a combination of both, within the past five (5) years.


    A minimum of at least 3 years’ experience as a surgical preceptor.


    Teaching experience is desired.




    Licenses and Certifications


    Must hold current credentials in CST, CFA/CSFA in the field of surgical technology/surgical assisting through NBSTSA certification program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).


    Current member of Association Surgical Technology (AST).


    American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Providers or equivalent required.
